Leo Season and the heat-heart of the summer
Hello friends!
I hope the northern hemisphere summer has been going well for you! My family and I were recently in Ireland, Scotland, and London (thus the missing Cancer season newsletter in June).
It was a really special time and amid the ancient ruins, rolling green hills, and dramatic rock-faces, I’m convinced I found some magical places where fairies must dwell. ;-)
Wednesday, July 22's transition from Cancer season into Leo season takes us from fairy dwellings, cozy spaces, emotional fluidity, and homey-vibes - straight into the heat-heart of summer!
From a purely elemental perspective, water signs are cool and wet, while fire signs are hot and dry. Moving from Cancer to Leo, then, is a shift you’re likely to really feel!
Leo is ruled by the Sun, so from July 22 - August 22, the Sun - the central organizing force of our planetary system, planet of radiance, leadership, and constancy - will be in the sign where it is most at home.
What does this mean? The Sun is comfortably in its own environment here and its characteristics are reflected in the leonine symbolism of Leo itself. This is a time of steady energy, of courage in action, of heart-led leadership.
Typically radiant, charismatic, and appealing, we know we’ve slipped into Leo’s dark side when we’re overheated, when our independence has isolated us, or when our courage has turned to stubbornness.
2026’s Leo season sees a number of other important shifts:
Jupiter - planet of expansion, growth, and blessings - moved into Leo June 29 and will be there until July 26, 2027.
What planets do you have in Leo? Which houses do they rule? Those are the places you can expect to experience Jupiter’s influence.
The North and South Nodes (where the eclipses happen) are changing signs, and ushering in a new set of lessons to do with what we yearn for and what we need to release.
Entering Leo (south node) and Aquarius (north node) on July 26th, this shift asks us to ditch negative sides of Leo energy (self-centeredness and unhealthy ego-driven behaviors) and lean into the ideals of Aquarius energy (ideating for the collective good and finding freedom through discipline and structure).
Mercury stations direct July 23 freeing up our thinking and allowing details, ideas, and dot-connecting to flow more smoothly than they may have since the end of June.
The month’s Moon-themes:
The July 29 Full Moon in Aquarius inspires us to be the leaders of our own revolution. What needs to be released so you can step into the fullest expression of YOU fulfilling your human need to be of service to others in ways only YOU can be?
The August 12 New Moon in Leo asks us to plant seeds of radiance, joy, and courage. How might you cultivate these facets of life, embrace more awe, and lead more steadfastly from your heart?
A Leo Somatic Practice
The somatic practice I’m going to explore this month is soaking in the rays of the Sun. While this may look like some sunbathing and vitamin D absorption, it will most often look like pausing and enjoying the radiance of the moment….
slowing down to deeply feel the joy of a moment…
or sitting back to appreciate the sounds of summer (children’s laughter, water splashing, the grill lighting up).
However you do it, I hope the radiance, pride, and courage of Leo season treats you well!
As always, if you’d like to learn how this season’s planetary activations are impacting you, reach out! I’d love to explore with you!
Lots of love,
Maggie
