Virgo Season: The Sacred in the Everyday

Whoosh - just like that - summer comes to a speedy close. The fire of Leo season is abating and practical, orderly, and intentionalVirgo season arrives (August 22 - September 22). ♍️

For some of us that means “Back to School” time. For others it’s a feeling of slowing down, getting into a more grounded routine. One friend has returned to baking even though it’s HOT where she lives!

No matter how the shift shows up for you, Virgo is an earth sign… we’ll likely feel the need to get our priorities straight and focus our attention on practical, 3D reality.

Given that the next four weeks are in a “mutable” sign, there might be some twists and bumps in the road ahead (it’s also eclipse season - more on that below!)... but Virgo’s clarity and orderliness help us take the surprises in stride (“Oh, the binders we got aren’t the ‘right’ ones and you need 3 different binders, graph paper, and new PE shirts for tomorrow?”).

If home is where your focus is over the next few weeks, it’s no surprise! Virgo is associated with the vestal virgins - these women were responsible for tending the sacred fires 🔥 and clearing the hearth 🧹. Whenever I think of Virgo and people with strong Virgo placements, I think of purification and ritual in service to the Divine, to Spirit, to God.

And where are we most likely to show our devotion? At home!

This may sound heretical, but for most of us, it’s in our daily acts, habits, and routines that we most commonly demonstrate our deepest held beliefs. We organize, we tidy, we prepare meals, we clean ourselves, we rest, we pray, we meditate, we practice - through small actions - what we believe.

Eclipse Season

There’s no better time to connect with this spirit of devotion than eclipse season! The powerful light sources in the sky - the Sun and the Moon - are in a dance and their light is flickering. The ancients believed things were wobbly during eclipses, so grab onto Virgo’s clean and pure robe-tails, and ground, ground, ground! Being well rested, well resourced, and steadied is a great way to handle the celestial tremors!

Upcoming Dates of Note

  • August 27: Mercury Cazimi. The planet of communication, thoughts, and ideas is briefly in a privileged place alongside the Sun. Say what needs to be said. Spread your message. Share your insights. Your brain might feel especially clear. Take advantage!

  • August 27: Full Moon, Lunar Eclipse in Pisces. How might you ground and put into practice your wildest dreams, your most vivid imaginings, your most sacred spiritual insights?

  • August 31 & September 1: Mars square Saturn. These two disruptors and lesson-teachers come into a tense relationship where Saturn slows down, cools, and constrains Mars’ desire for action, intensity, and impulsivity. You may experience some friction in your Mars-ruled Aries and Scorpio houses. Cool your jets. Take your time. Mull it all over before you DO anything. Take impassioned, quick decision making OFF the table for these couple of days!

  • September 10: New Moon in Virgo. How can you best care for your health, reap the benefits of the harvest (literally and figuratively), and be of service? As one dear friend recently asked of Virgo season, “How can I purge to have more clarity so I can be of service?”

As a girl without a lot of Earth in my chart, I love it when these Earth signs come around toremind me that I’m here… on the planet… living an embodied life… in this moment… in this place.

Make the most of your earthly experience, friends!

💫 Maggie
